In Brief:
Dubstep is without any doubt the hot button dance music genre of 2010, and with Dubstep pioneer Rusko producing for Britney Spear’s next album, Magnetic Man (the super group of the genre teaming producers Skream & Benga) reaching the UK top 10, and Dubstep club events & festival sets taking the country by storm, the time is bang on for the first Australian-originated, compiled and mixed compilation of the hottest in the genre.

At the helm, and celebrating a decade at the top of the Australian DJ scene, is none other than Kid Kenobi (ITM50 #1 DJ in ‘03, ‘04 & ‘05). With a high profile spot on the 2011 Big Day Out tour, and a proven ability to champion breaking genres (see his top selling 2002 Clubber’s Guide To Breaks release), The Kid brings heavy weight credentials to the mix. He’s joined by newcomers Glovecats for two discs of fierce sub sonic mayhem featuring the heros of the genre including Chase & Status, Pendulum, Rusko, Example, Bar 9, Sub Focus, Nero, Skream & more.

This Friday sees a full throttle launch of Dubstep Invasion into clubs all around Australia as Kid Kenobi & Glovecats hit the road to celebrate the release. Expect to see some speakers bleeding and walls breathing as Dubstep invades to a club near you!

KID KENOBI
Countless accolades, awards, records, and firsts have been the hallmark of Kid Kenobi’s illustrious 13-year DJing career. Indeed it’s an impossible task trying to resist running them off. From being named Australia’s favourite DJ for a record number 3 years from 2003 – 2005, receiving an award for his first remix ever (of Green Velvet’s “La La Land’ ), to an ARIA nomination for ‘The Bump’ with Hook N Sling, knocking up over 20 remixes for some of the world’s biggest names in dance, pop and rock, being the first DJ ever to have a CD series named after him by Ministry of Sound, to having an itinerary that reads like a Lonely Planet guidebook to the best nightclubs around the world, Kid Kenobi has just about done it all. It’s almost become a cliché to say that there isn’t much left for him to do. And yet perhaps the Kids greatest triumph of all is his ability to keep on evolving and growing as an artist. Music trends come and go, clubbers retire, scenes change, and awards gather dust but Kid Kenobi, it seems, is here to stay. It’s little wonder then that 2009 is shaping up to be Kid Kenobi’s biggest year yet. Fed up and disillusioned with the direction of dance music in 2007, Kid Kenobi realised his only salvation would come from taking responsibility for his own artistic journey and creating for himself the music he needed to hear. It was a great time of transition. Friends and family were replaced with solitude in the studio, partying was replaced with the gym and early morning starts in the studio, disappointment was replaced with inspiration, and a new chapter in the Kids career was born. Out of this transition was born Two Fresh – a new collaboration with his brother Hugga Thugg (together they have already remixed the likes of P-Money, Soda Boys, and Tone Loc), out of this was born Kosmic Kids – a new outlet for the Kid’s love of deeper sounds – out of this was born his first independent compilation ‘Klub Kids 01’, and out of this was born Klub Kids itself, Kid Kenobi’s own record label and new home to all the music he has and is yet to write. It’s perhaps another cliché to say the future looks ‘bright’, but there seems no other word to describe that, which lays ahead for the Kid. Having achieved so much already, one seems a fool to expect anything less from the next phase of his artistic journey

GLOVECATS
As a genre, Dubstep has a width and depth that offers something for everybody. From the wonky bass-driven madness of the dark side to the more sexy ambient cuts, the genre has a range that can establish a wide variety of moods. Building the perfect Dubstep vibe involves pulling these varying pieces together into one coherent whole, and Sydney crew Glovecats are accomplished exponents of this approach.
With an ‘anything goes’ musical ethos, Glovecats have been pushing the boundaries of this bass obsessed sound all around Sydney, educating the new and giving appreciation to the old. Building a following through their many mixtapes, Glovecats have gone from strength to strength supporting some of the biggest players in the genre including NERO, DOCTOR P, RESO, BUNGLE , MT EDEN DUBSTEP, SHOCKONE & PHETSTA, OPTIMUS GRYME, DIZZ-1, BULLETPROOF & AGENT ALVIN.
With studio collaborations with producers Dave Implex & Slice forthcoming on Onelove, and regular stand out sets at Sydney institutions CHINESE LAUNDRY FRIDAYS, SCIENCE FACTION & their own JIVE parties, the Glovecats sound won’t fail to get you reaching for the lasers.
