"A Step Back In Time To How It All Began"
An in-front-of and behind-the-scenes look of what keeps the ClubbersRadio beat alive
|
2003
>> Early 2003
The future home of Internet Radio "AudioPussy.com" was just a website
of a work in progress; a mIRC Script that announces the track you are
currently listening to, via Winamp, in a mIRC chatroom. There were no
plans at this stage for the site to become home to a radio station. In fact,
at this stage, a radio station had not yet even been thought of. This was
over one year before ClubbersRadio was born.
|
2004
>> June 11th 2004
Northern Queensland, Australia, June 11th 2004, IRC (Internet Relay
Chat) user Dougy had an idea of broadcasting to his fellow mates via
ShoutCast,
using his DSL connection and home PC. The station is called
"E-1337 FM" (or Elite FM).
>> June 17th 2004
LOOPYdj finds Dougy and DJ_Crakka in the AudioPussy chatroom and tunes
in. LOOPYdj's first experience; a low bitrate mp3 stream with two guys
doing karaoke! and later tries a small broadcast on the home dial-up
connection, which is successful. The music played on the station at the
time was more Linkin Park and Usher (Rock/Rap) than Fatboy Slim and
Tiesto (Dance/Trance). The name AudioPussy had been running for one day.
>> July 2004
DJ_Crakka creates the AudioPussy website, which becomes home to the
new Internet station. The site contains links to the chatroom, and three radio links:
pop-up window, Media Player & Winamp. (Not sure whether the old purpose
of the website, a mIRC Script plugin, was ever completed and downloadable to the
public.)
Interest from locals starts to grow in the chatroom. Within days
the chatroom members expand from 3 to 20+ and local up-and-coming dj's have a
crack at sharing their skills on air. We hit a peak of 17 listeners.
LOOPYdj discovers the better sound quality of mp3PRO and it becomes the
new streaming format. The interest grows and many locals wanna get
their stuff heard on the air. Dj after dj allowed us to hit another
peak; 21 listeners! The max capacity of 32 listeners is doubled to 64,
just in case.
The music is played from various sources and ceases each morning at around 5am
(or whenever the dial-up connection dropped). Broadcasting recommenced a few
hours later each late morning/afternoon. Listeners are steady and peak with each
evening mix. We get our first female announcer for an evening which is a nice change.
DJ Lost joins the AudioPussy.com crew.
>> August 2004
After much confusion on what exactly AudioPussy.com is (due to the
name) and people refusing to visit the website with fear of it being a
xxx porn site with viruses, a new name is decided. A Google search of
"ClubbersRadio" returned no results, and thus ClubbersRadio.com is born.
Dj's tell their friends to tune in and the station gets a new peak of 40+ listeners.
>> September 2004
The ClubbersRadio.com website becomes public and functional.
>> October 2004
Website www.clubbersradio.com gets a new look and new features. A
schedule is added for viewers to see what live shows are on and when.
A test broadcast live from an Australian nightclub doesn't go too good.
A transmitter is used to get the audio from the DJ back to the
computer. At some stages there is more static than music -- a few more
attempts, and then the idea slowly fades. Was still a fun experience while it
lasted.
The main source of music is now from one PC only (excluding live shows),
and is also used for other purposes as well, which may have caused
glitches in the broadcast.
>> December 15th 2004
1 evening, 5 dj's, 5 live mixes, 1 attack to follow. The mIRC chatroom
attracts all sorts of people, some, not so nice. The shoutcast stream
running on the same server as the website goes down, along of course,
with the website. ClubbersRadio is wiped off the Internet until the attacks
cease.
2005
>> Early 2005
ClubbersRadio.com returns on a new server, one that can't be attacked
in the same way the previous one was, and we once again pump out the
tunes to the world!
A higher bitrate stream is also sometimes used during live shows, as a
higher quality audio stream or a video stream.
>> February 4th 2005
A program written by LOOPYdj named ClubbersInteractive Beta was
launched to help control the way tracks were selected and played.
>> Mid 2005
Couldn't really decide whether we're coming or going. It's decided that
we're not going and a few changes are made. The website is revamped (has
been a few times now), streaming is done using the ever growing aacPlus
audio format, and a dedicated PC is now used to relay all music to the
server, including live broadcasts. Streaming-wise, things become more
stable than ever.
>> October 29th 2005
During an off air phase (I think), the official version of ClubbersInteractive
was being written, from scratch.
>> December 7th 2005
Although far from complete, ClubbersInteractive had enough code to
interact well with the playlist and had begun running. Extra code and features
were to be added as time went on.
2006
>> Early 2006
A proper version of ClubbersInteractive, the program used to help
control the flow of the music, is complete. Minor features and bugs
were still (and probably always will be) worked on.
ClubbersRadio's
new headquarters is Melbourne, Australia - and commences 24/7 streaming.
>> Mid 2006
Website changes yet again, and the year has just flown by. Many live
mixes and shows are scheduled, and the station format is very
organised. House, Trance and various Dance is played during the day,
and for overnight, Trance only. Mixes are played at programmed times
during the day and night, as opposed to the old random system.
2007
>> Early 2007
A few live broadcasts are performed from a local record store. It's something
different, which is what we like doing. During this stage other new live
broadcasters included Milo, Solrac, Messy Creations, Spinmagiic, NakedAge,
DJ Sam, Stevie B & Inditisipity + Guests.
>> February 19th 2007
A big change to the overnight format; Trance Overnite becomes Trance Weekend,
which means weekdays keep the same format day and night and the weekend
includes only Progressive and Trance from 12am-12pm Saturday & Sunday.
>> August 2007
The biggest changes yet were about to happen. The domain is transfered to a
new server and LOOPYdj assumes the role of webmaster. The website is
reduced to a single page while a new design is created.
>> September 2007
After being created from scratch, the brand new website is complete and public.
New features include a chat room, shoutbox and improved forum and calendar.
Methods of increasing website traffic are put into play, and the website receives
more daily hits than ever before. Server tune-ins and listeners also greatly
improve. As ClubbersRadio says goodbye to the Sunday Sessions with Indy,
new shows such as Pure House Music, Ruforia, DJ Lost's Summer House
Selections & Plasmatic Sessions are scheduled into the playlist calendar.
>> December 2007
The first edition of the Top 100 of 2007 has been put together and ends the year
reminding us of just a sample of the amazing number of dance tracks released
during the year. Robyn's "With Every Heartbeat" hit the playlist in February 2007
and remained in high rotation for the rest of the year, undoubtedly deserving of the #1
position. Happy Holidays!
2008
>> Early 2008
New shows including Remix Sessions, Tjitzman, Climax with Chris Ward, The
Shakedown & Night Life Sessions are added to the playlist calendar.
ClubbersInteractive has also proven to be working fine and therefore has not had any
major recoding for months.
>> July 2008
A major change to ClubbersInteractive (music manager program); unique code is implemented
that takes characteristics of tracks into consideration before they are queued, giving a better
"flow" of what and how music is played. Just another step to help give ClubbersRadio its own
unique image. Trance Weekend is cut short an hour, ending at 11am instead of 12pm.
>> August 2008
Four years on and no sign of slowing down!
>> December 2008
Woah! Looks like a slight bump in the road. "Technical difficulties" to the nth degree. ClubbersRadio
was off air for much of the month, due to something that seemed to take forever to be resolved. This was
a month of ClubbersRadio that would best be forgotten.
2009
>> January 2009
Back to stable broadcasting. It wasn't long before things were back on the up.
>> March 2009
Some little changes made here and there to the website. One major addition was a rating system. Each
track can be given up to a 5-star rating. This is to help determine which tracks should stay and which
tracks should go.
>> December 2009
Summer! Summer! Summer! The Top 209 of 2009 was compiled, and thanks to the rating system, was
the most accurate end-of-year countdown ever.
